Know where every dollar goes, every month.
Tell Allocta how much you're investing and it shows how much to buy of each holding to keep your portfolio on the allocation you chose. No spreadsheet, no mental math.

What to buy
Total $2,468.00
- VXUS18 shares$1,224.00
- BND12 shares$876.00
- VNQ4 shares$368.00
Example with made-up numbers, run by the same calculator you get in the app.
A spreadsheet tells you what you own. Not what to buy.
Every month, the same routine: open the spreadsheet, update prices, check percentages and figure out how much goes into each holding. One wrong formula and the money goes to the wrong fund.
Allocta does that math for you, before you open the spreadsheet.
Prices updated by hand.

Your portfolio drifts on its own. You can fix it without selling.
Over time, whatever grows fastest becomes a bigger share of your portfolio. You planned 50% stocks and 50% bonds, stocks rallied, and now they're 65%. Without realizing it, you're taking more risk than you signed up for.
Rebalancing means bringing your portfolio back to the proportions you set. There are two ways to do it.
Example: $20,000 in your portfolio, with a target of 50% stocks and 50% bonds. Today it's $13,000 in stocks (65%) and $7,000 in bonds (35%).
Sell what went up
You sell $3,000 of stocks and buy $3,000 of bonds. Your portfolio is back to 50/50 right away, but in a taxable brokerage account the sale can trigger capital gains tax on the profit.
Steer your new contributions
You put your next contributions only into bonds. With $6,000 in total, say $2,000 a month for 3 months, you're back to 50/50 without selling anything: no sale, no capital gains tax. This is what Allocta calculates.
Simplified example, ignoring price changes over that period.
A well-known strategy. Now automated.
Fidelity, Charles Schwab and Vanguard describe the same principle: keep the portfolio close to its targets, and use new money to do it.
“If you're planning to contribute more to your investments soon, another option is to use those new contributions to rebalance — restoring your targeted allocations without selling any positions, and avoiding a potential tax bill.”
“Implementing this rebalancing process could be complex and challenging for an individual investor trying to manually manage his or her portfolio. This is one of the areas where the power of technology shines.”
“As the underlying value of your funds fluctuates, your allocation may begin to drift away from your target mix. As a result, you may find that you're over- or underweighted in stocks, exposing you to more or less risk than you're comfortable with.”

Frequently asked questions
Adjusting your portfolio to get back to the proportions you planned, for example 50% stocks and 50% bonds. Allocta does it by directing your new contributions to whatever fell below plan.
No. You just need to know how much you want in each asset class, for example 60% stocks and 40% bonds. Allocta doesn't pick investments or make recommendations: it does the math of how much to buy of each.
No. You choose the assets and set your target allocation. Allocta only calculates how to distribute each new investment to keep your portfolio on target.
No. The algorithm uses only the money you're putting in, so there's nothing to sell: no taxable event and no trading costs. That matters most in a regular (taxable) brokerage account, where selling can trigger capital gains tax. Inside an IRA or 401(k), selling isn't taxed, but you still skip the trades.
No. You can add assets one by one or import a spreadsheet (Excel or CSV) with what you hold today, and review everything before saving.
It depends on how far off it is and how much you invest each month. If it's far off and contributions are small, it can take several months. Allocta always shows how far each class still is from its target.

Yes. Allocta only suggests buys that fit the amount you have, in whole or fractional shares depending on how you set each asset.
Stocks, ETFs, index funds, REITs, bonds, crypto, and international assets. If you hold it, you can track it and include it in the calculation. You can also mix currencies in the same portfolio and say how much to invest in each.
